About This Spot

Arriving at Friendly Farm Restaurant feels like stepping into a warm, familiar retreat nestled just outside the bustle of city life. Set along Foreston Road in the Maryland countryside, the restaurant invites guests to slow down and savor a moment of calm amid the gentle landscape. There’s an unhurried rhythm here—a cozy, relaxed pace where the hum of friendly chatter blends with the subtle charm of country views and open spaces for wandering before or after a meal.

Inside, the atmosphere balances welcoming family comfort with a touch of timeless country hospitality. It’s the kind of place where generations gather to share stories over a meal that feels thoughtfully prepared with care and tradition in mind. You’ll notice this in the way starters arrive at the table—simple, hearty touches like fresh rolls, apple butter, and classic sides served family style, inviting shared moments and casual conversation rather than formal dining rituals.

The food here is woven into the fabric of the experience, offering familiar, satisfying flavors that feel both homey and a little celebratory. Whether it’s the crispy fried chicken, rich crab cakes, or juicy steaks, each plate seems to carry the promise of comfort paired with just enough specialness to make the occasion feel worth the drive. And just when the meal begins to settle, the sweet finish of ice cream in playful flavors gently wraps up the visit, making it a memory that lingers.

Friendly Farm isn’t just about food—it’s a place where moments ripple through the seasons and occasions, where you can bring family old and young, and find a sense of belonging in the gentle spirit of the countryside. The service, while quietly attentive, helps keep the atmosphere relaxed and genuine, echoing the hospitality that’s made this spot a quietly cherished destination for years.

I took my wife and Mother out for mother's day dinner here. I feel like we go every year lol. It's a nice drive to get there, probably about an hour but worth the meal. Since it was Mothers day it was packed. People waiting inside and outside. Nice area outside to walk around and enjoy the view. Our wait was about 50 mins before we got seated. If you never been there before you will pay for your meal before you are seated. If you ask me...every restaurant should do this. We always get the crabcakes. My wife got two crabcakes for $60 and I got one for $33 . My Mom got some kind of country ham for $24. The sides are endless. Starts with cold sides like pears, apple butter, cottage cheese, cole slaw and rolls. Then they bring green beans, corn and fries. All the food was great. Never a complaint. Crab cakes were excellent. Corn was great. Ham was good. Etc etc etc . Server was very nice. Looking past the crowdiness the atmosphere inside was nice. They sell pies and gourmet candies in the waiting area. I'm posting a few photos. Not the best pics but after waiting almost an hour to be seated all I could think about was eating lol. So we may have started before taking pics crossed my mind. Giving 5 out 5 stars.

Good food, friendly efficient staff and pleasant country views. Included starters were sweet buns, Apple butter, slaws, and cottage cheese. The crab cake had lumps and the chicken was juicy. Sides were hot and fresh served family style. Everyone gets a scoop to finish off the meal.

The first time was an extended family meal and it was so good that Mom and i had to return for the chicken since she didn't get it the first time and we were all raving about it and i was craving it again already! Have to say that the service wasn't as fast the second time but the food was consistently hot, fresh and delicious! Will i return.. i sure plan on it even though i live in texas!

I haven't been to Friendly Farms restaurants since 1982. The decor has changed but the food is still like what I remembered when I was in my twenties. The only thing that is sad is that they no longer have the gift shop. The fried shrimp was just like I remembered it. There was more ice cream choices for dessert. All the sides are the same that I remember from when I was a kid until my 20s. You still go in order and pay before your seat it which I love. Took my husband there for his birthday because he had never been. He was okay with it but I loved it because it brought back so many memories of going with my immediate family my grandmother and my aunts and uncles and cousins.

Everyone mainly mentions the food and the service, well it's because it's simply the finest you'll find of any family restaurant anywhere. We are always trying to find people who have never been here before as an excuse to go again. (Not that you need one) But to see the look on their faces as they experience it for the first time. But I want to mention the thrill on my daughter's face. It's a true adventure each and every time we come. And don't forget to take some of it home with you. Like iced raisin bread!!!

Absolutely love this place if you want all American food with a taste of Maryland this is where to go. It's out in farm country, simple farm vibes. My second time coming here. Got the crab cakes and fried chicken(got this last time too, worth) both were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. They do simple things right, is the best way to describe this place. You pay one meal per person, I think you can share for extra charge, but sides and drinks are included/unlimited. Good deal IMO. Worth the side trip off 95 if going back and forth from NY area to DC.

Friendly Farms is a pleasant dining experience. It is a fun place to go for a special reason. The excitement for making the beautiful drive has changed over the years. The wait staff are incredible. The front staff are rude. Every time I have been there, I feel rushed to decide my order whether it is busy or not. They need to learn to smile. They are just crotchety. When people are spending this kind of money, first impressions go a long way!
